The system has an even number of spark plugs (1, 2) arranged in an Otto engine and controlled by a controller such that multiple pairs of the spark plugs are simultaneously in a discharge stroke of a cylinder of the Otto engine. The plugs comprise two ignition coils (3, 4) that are attached with primary windings (5, 7) and secondary windings (6, 8). The coils commonly produce a pair of elongated arc-overs or a sequence of multiple individual sparks at the plugs during a time period in each engine cycle. A control device (13) is connected with an engine control equipment (14).
