High-voltage gas pressure switch with disparate field electrodes

The switch has a pair of fixed contacts (1,2) and a bridging contact (3) which is firmly connected to a compression cylinder (4) and driven axially by a motor (5). To render the electric field more uniform, two field electrodes (6,7) are movable in opposite directions at the ends of respective arms of a lever (8) actuated by a tension spring (9). In the switched-on position the compression piston forms a stop for the lower field electrode (7). To switch off, the bridging contact is driven (10) to free the electrode from the cylinder. The controllable relative setting of the two electrodes gives a variable spatial field contour for equalisation.
