PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of easily and accurately measuring a polarization axis direction of a superimposed body of polarization splitters.SOLUTION: A polarization axis direction measuring instrument (1) includes polarization axis direction calculation means which calculates a first rotation angle minimizing the amount of received light, from amounts of received light at a plurality of rotation angles during rotation of a measurement sample being a superimposed body of polarization splitters by a sample holder (15). The polarization axis direction calculation means calculates polarization axis directions between respective polarization splitters constituting the measurement sample on the basis of a reference rotation angle showing relation between polarization axes of a light source unit (12) and an analyzer (13) and an angle of the sample holder (15), the first rotation angle, and a second rotation angle minimizing the amount of received light, which is calculated from amounts of received light at a plurality of rotation angles during rotation of the measurement sample from the first rotation angle in a direction in which the rotation angle increases or decreases. |
