The invention relates to a device (1) for protecting a load (2) from being overloaded. The aim of the invention is to provide an improved device (1) which is designed in an optimized manner in particular with respect to the thermal loading of the device. This is achieved in that the device (1) comprises an input-side connection point (106), an output-side connection point (107), a first current path which comprises a first and a second line (101, 102) between the input-side and output-side connection points (106, 107), and a monitoring device in order to ascertain an imminent overload of the electric load (2). The input-side connection point (106) is connected to the output-side connection point (107) in an electrically conductive manner inside the device in the normal state of the device (1), and the current flow between the input-side connection point (106) and the output-side connection point (107) is prevented in an overload state of the device (1). The monitoring device comprises a measuring transducer (10) which connects the first line (101) to the second line (102) in an electrically conductive manner, said measuring transducer (10) comprising a first material (5) which carries out a phase change by means of a current-induced temperature increase at the measuring transducer (10) in the normal state of the device. |
