The casing for a fire alarm or burglar alarm system comprises a box (2) holding circuits for the reception and processing of information, batteries (5) providing a power supply for the device, and a man-machine interface situated at the front of the box. On its front surface (4a) the box includes an opening (7) in which several modular blocks (9,10,11) are destined to be fixed. The modular blocks include the interface (8), and various other blocks at least one of which may be a generic type. The other blocks depend on the nature of the function of the alarm device. The generic block includes pushbuttons or similar controls for entry of information, and indicators to show the status of the alarm system.
