The present invention relates to an orally administered preparation whereby the bioavailability of megestrol acetate is improved and to a method for improving the bioavailability of orally administered megestrol acetate. The orally administered preparation containing megestrol acetate of the present invention exhibits an outstanding elution rate and bioavailability and so makes it possible to obtain an effect which is equivalent to or better than with an existing megestrol acetate suspension even at a far lower dose, and, when produced as a tablet, makes it possible to overcome the problem of physical stability associated with the suspension while at the same time maximising the drug-taking convenience for the patient.
