PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of data omission and recording stop when data are introduced at a high speed into an optical disk device which conducts a rewriting and writing into a different region when there exist defects which prevents correct recording. e.g. scratch and stain, on an optical recording medium, thereby occurring recording speed reduction. SOLUTION: When recording and reproduction of information are not being conducted and laser light beams are tracking along the track on an optical information recording medium, defects on eth medium are detected by abnormality in the level of light beams reflected from the medium of the laser light beams being irradiated to determine the propriety of the reading of physical addresses or the recording of the information, and the detected defects are registered on a defect registration region provided on the medium.
