The present invention relates to a mobile terminal using a message service and a control method thereof. The mobile terminal according to one embodiment of the present invention includes: a wireless communication unit which exchanges messages between a plurality of participants who enter a chatting room through a message application; a control unit which converts the inputted message into a secret message and blocks the transmission of the secret message to the selected chatting participants if the input of the message is sensed in a secret chatting mode in which a part of the chatting participants are selected; and a display unit which separately displays the secret message and the different chatting message in the chatting room.
