PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a search support system and a search supporting method for quickly and efficiently searching for a person to be searched with a prescribed area as a reference area without increasing auxiliary equipment. SOLUTION: This search support system includes a finding supporting device 10 carried by the person to be searched and for transmitting present location information according to a transmission instruction, and a plurality of terminals 60 and 77 for search for receiving a search instruction, information of the person to be searched and the location information of the terminal of the person to be searched, stores the information of the person to be searched, guardian information and the finding supporting device 10 carried by the person to be searched with them associated with one another, acquires the location information from the finding supporting device 10 on the basis of a search request, decides whether or not the person to be searched exists within a specified area, performs search within the specified area with an information management system 30 provided within the specified area in accordance with decision results, or performs search outside the specified area with a search management system 50.
