The invention provides a butt welding method and a butt welding device. The butt welding device (1) comprises a welding torch (2) used for enabling a welding rod (2) to be protruded from a groove (Wb) formed between the end faces (Wa, Wb) of a pair of steel plates (W, W), a mobile trolley (5) used for enabling the welding torch (3) to move along the groove (Wb), a welding power supply (6) and a control part (10). When the welding torch (2) is supplied with power so as to be welded, the welding torch (3) and the mobile trolley (5) are moved together. A weld bead (B) is formed inside the groove (Wb). The control part (10) is provided with a current value measuring unit (11). The current value obtained by the current value measuring unit (11) is compared with the prescribed current valve for obtaining the target thickness of the weld bead, the thickness of the weld bead (B) is kept to be certain so as to determine the mobile speed of the mobile trolley (5). |
