<p>A letter plate assembly of the type having a frame 3 and a flap 5 coupled to the frame by a pivot assembly 15 at each end of the flap such that the flap can move between a closed position and an open position comprises at least one pivot assembly with a pivot pin 17 having a first part 21 coupled to the frame and a second part 23 coupled to the flap . The first and second parts engage telescopically and define a cavity 25 within the pin in which a spring 19 is received. The spring is attached at one end to the first part of the pin and at the other end to the second part of the pin. The second part rotates with the flap relative to the first part on pivotal movement of the flap from the closed position to the open position and loads the spring to generate a spring force acting to return the flap to the closed position. The spring may be axially compressible to facilitate the installation of the pivot assembly and the spring may be pre-loaded with tension prior to installation so as to bias the toward the closed position.</p> |
