Provided is a plasma display device having a novel phosphor layer which emits green light and improved initial emission luminance and improved emission luminance maintaining rate. The phosphor layer includes particles of Zn2SiO4:Mn. The surface of the particles are covered with magnesium oxide. The ratio of Mg to Si measured by an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) apparatus on the particle surface is 0.7 or more but not more than 4.0.
