Document management system comprising: a document storage; and a metadata storage; wherein the metadata storage is arranged to store structural data with regard to documents stored in the document storage; and wherein the metadata storage is further arranged to store a first action associated with a document stored in the document storage and the first action is further associated with a user or a user role, wherein the first action is to be performed by the specified user or a user being a member of the specified user role and the first action is to be performed on the document the action is associated with; the document management system further comprising: document selection means for generating for a user a view comprising a selection of documents, the documents being associated with first actions that are associated with the user or a user role the user is a member of.
