MONITORING METHOD IN LASER WELDING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring method in laser welding, which can surely judge weld quality even when welding is conducted in the depth direction.

SOLUTION: A first material 1 and a second material 2 are overlapped with the rear side of the first material on top of the second material and welded by laser which is irradiated from the surface side of the first material. At this time, a laser-irradiated part is observed in order to judge weld quality in such a way that an opening 4 is prepared at the center part of the laser welding position on the first material 1, and then laser welding is performed. Whether laser reaches the second material or not is judged on the basis of the change of beam caused by the existence of the opening 4 through the observation of the laser-irradiated part.
