A system and a method for compressing video data, and a method for processing the video data are provided to reduce the complexity in search for a plurality of motion vectors for encoding and/or reconstructing video data including semi-transparent overlays. A first prediction of values of one or more pixels in a first video frame is determined based on values of one or more pixels in parallel arranged in a second video frame(410). A second prediction of the values of the pixels in the first video frame is determined based on the values of one or more pixels, which are not in parallel arranged in the second video frame(415). A mixing weight value is determined, wherein the mixing weight value is used to combine the first prediction and the second prediction while the values of the pixels are reconstructed(420). A first error metric is calculated between the first prediction pixel values and the pixel values in the first video frame. A second error metric is calculated between the second prediction pixel values and the pixel values in the first video frame. The mixing weight value is determined based on the calculated first error metric and second error metric.
