An abbreviated number setup method of a mobile communication terminal is provided to minimize the number of key inputting times for setting abbreviated numbers, and to set the abbreviated numbers even when another function is performed, thereby easily setting the abbreviated numbers. When a function using a telephone number is performed(S10), a controller monitors whether number key input exists(S12). If so, the controller decides whether the number key input is inputted to set a preset sending abbreviated number(S14). If so, the controller decides whether the currently used telephone number is stored in phone book data(S18). If not, the controller displays an abbreviated number registration window(S22). The controller stores data inputted through the registration window in the phone book data(S24), and displays the registered results(S26).
