RESIDUAL EXHAUST GAS PROCESSING METHOD AND PROCESSING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a residual exhaust gas processing method and processing apparatus, achieving safe combustion and diffusion of residual exhaust gas containing combustible components to the air without a large-scale water sealing apparatus.

SOLUTION: This method of processing exhaust gas containing combustible component remaining in an exhaust gas passage including an exhaust gas processing device when the operation of a vertical furnace is suspended or stopped, includes the steps of: (a) interrupting an exhaust gas passage between the vertical furnace and the exhaust gas processing device; (b) feeding nitrogen to the interior of the exhaust gas passage on the exhaust gas processing device side; (c) retaining the gas pressure in the exhaust gas passage to the positive pressure; and (d) performing combustion and diffusion at a flow velocity exceeding the back firing speed of CO and H2.
