The invention relates to a mechanism for reducing the speed of road traffic and to a corresponding speed bump. The mechanism for reducing the speed of road traffic on public highways includes: [a] a collapsible surface (1) which moves between a raised position and a collapsed position, wherein the collapsible surface is normally in the raised position; and [b] retaining means (19) capable of retaining the collapsible surface in the raised position. The retaining means are activated when the speed of motion of the collapsible surface is higher than a predetermined maximum speed. This mechanism makes it possible to create a speed bump for reducing the speed of road traffic which includes one or two of said mechanisms. When the speed bump includes two mechanisms, each of the latter has a width of less than 1.2 m, being separated from one another by a distance such that cars simultaneously run over the two mechanisms. |
