Disclosed is a remote control operation method, and the method comprises: searching for a to-be-controlled device and application software in the to-be-controlled device and obtaining control information of the to-be-controlled device and the application software; receiving a triggered instruction from a user and determining control information corresponding to the triggered instruction, the triggered instruction being used to instruct remote control to be performed on the to-be-controlled device and/or the application software; and performing remote control operation on the to-be-controlled device and/or the application software according to the control information. Also disclosed is a remote control operation device. The present invention resolves the problem that a universal remote control is not capable of controlling application software of a device, so that a remote control is capable of automatically searching to find a device, and controllable contents are exchanged and displayed between the device and the remote control. In addition, the minimum unit controlled by the remote control is not limited to the device, and the control scope covers various application service software that exists in the device.
