<p>It is an object of the present invention to improve the utility of a hydraulic brake system in which the pressure of hydraulic fluid supplied by a high-pressure source (22) is adjusted using a pressure-increasing linear valve (26) and a pressure-reducing linear valve (28), and in which a brake device (12) generates braking force whose size depends on the adjusted pressure. Feedback control is selectively performed on the basis of the deviation of the actual servo pressure PSRV from the target servo pressure to control the excitation current supplied to the pressure-increasing linear valve and to the pressure-decreasing linear valve, and feed-forward control is selectively performed on the basis of the target servo pressure to balance the opening and closing of the pressure-increasing linear valve and the pressure-decreasing linear valve. During feed-forward control, a larger excitation current is supplied to the pressure-increasing linear valve and to the pressure-decreasing linear valve on the basis of the relationship determined beforehand between the servo pressure and the excitation current when the opening and closing of the valves is balanced. In this way, sufficient braking force is maintained even when feed-forward control is performed.</p>
