Holding device (27) comprises a gripping device, which is arranged on a mounting. A tap hole drilling machine (10) exhibits a mounting (11) having a movably arranged drill- and hammer mechanism (16). The drill- and hammer mechanism comprises a drill rod receptacle (17) for connecting the drill rod. The gripping device acts relative to drill rod receptacle for holding the drill rod. The drill rod is firmly fixed on the mounting by the gripping device. An independent claim is also included for removing the drill rod from drill rod receptacle of tap hole drilling machine, comprising moving the drill rod receptacle to the gripping device such that the drill rod is removed from the drill rod receptacle.
