The method involves recharging an auxiliary cartridge (3) from a main cartridge (2). Quantity of reducer i.e. ammonia, is taken with regular intervals during a recharging phase. Recharging speed (VA) of the reducer is determined from temperature measurements of exothermic dissolution reaction. The recharging speed is compared with predetermined recharging speed (Vr). The recharging speed is adapted to reach the predetermined recharging speed according to the comparison so as to obtain desired quantity of recharge reducer at an end of the recharging phase. An independent claim is also included for a system for reducing nitrogen oxide present in exhaust gases of a car.
