An arrangement for supporting a bird feeder comprises a horizontally disposed pole with means 5, 11 or 7, 9 at one end for attaching to a vertical support such as a wall, fence or post, and means 3, 6 at the other end for attaching a bird feeder (not shown). The pole comprises an outer sleeve 1 freely rotatable about an inner shaft or rod 2 such that when a squirrel or other animal attempts to traverse the pole the sleeve will rotate, causing the animal to fall from the pole. The pole may comprise an aluminium shaft 2 with a PVC outer sleeve 1 supported on the shaft by Nylon (RTM) bearings 4. In preferred embodiments the pole is attached to the vertical support (not shown) by a curved steel arm 5 or 7 welded to a vertically disposed plate 11 which fastens to a wall or fence, or welded to a ring 9 which fastens around a post. The means for attaching the bird feeder preferably comprises a hook 3 which screws into a plug 6 provided in the end of the pole. |
