The invention relates to a compound selected from the group consisting of desethylamiodarone and pharmaceutically acceptable salts, hydrates and solvates thereof, as well as pharmaceutical composition comprising the compound together with a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, vehicle or carrier, for use in the treatment and prevention of atrial fibrillation with fewer side effects than its parent compound.
