PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet treating method to manage well with an occurrence of a jam with sheet. SOLUTION: In conformity to an initialize instruction (ST12), the transporting speed of sheets of paper by a sheet transporting mechanism is controlled into the first transporting speed, and the destination of the sheets to be distributed by a sheet distributing mechanism for the fed sheets is controlled to the destination specified previously (ST13), and in conformity to the given distribute instruction (ST16), new sheets are fed to the sheet transporting mechanism, and the sheet transporting speed by the transporting mechanism is controlled to a second speed higher than the first, and the destination of sheets by the distributing mechanism is controlled in accordance with the deciding result of the sort of sheets (ST17).
