<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which a unit coaxially connected to the drive output shaft of an apparatus body side can be smoothly removed from, with a simple configuration, the apparatus body in a direction perpendicular to the drive output shaft. <P>SOLUTION: When the intermediate transfer unit 30 is drawn in a drawing direction by gripping handles 36a and 36b, only handles 36a and 36b are drawn out against the biasing force of a coil spring 47c because a body-side coupling 41 is disposed in a first position. At this point, the leading end of a slider 45 moves over a first inclining face 51 formed on the handle 36a, and is pushed inside a frame side plate 23a against the biasing force of the coil spring 47b. As a result, the other end of a slider 45 presses an actuating plate 43, and the actuating plate 43 further presses the body-side coupling 41.
