PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power converter which can detect fault of a drive circuit.SOLUTION: Before driving a load, an ON signal is input to the upper arm element of a power converter at time t0, and an OFF signal is input at time t1. Upon elapsing a dead time from the time t1, an ON signal of short pulse is input to the lower arm element from time t3 to time t5. If the drive circuit of the upper arm element is faulty, switching of the upper arm element is delayed. As a result, the upper arm element is turned ON at time t0a, and turned OFF at time t1a. If the time t1a when the upper arm element is turned OFF lags behind the time t3 when the lower arm element is turned ON, the upper arm element and lower arm element are short-circuited, and the voltage of a smoothing capacitor drops. A microcomputer determines that the drive circuit is faulty based on the voltage drop of the smoothing capacitor. |
