Disclosed is a software installation method, which comprises: receiving a software installation reduction request; downloading a first installation package which only comprises a basic function of the software, the software comprising a first installation package and at least one second installation package which can be installed selectively, and the second installation package comprising an additional function for conducting expanded application of the basic function of the software; and parsing the first installation package to conduct basic function installation. Also disclosed at the same time are a terminal, a software installation system and a corresponding computer storage medium. The solution of the present invention can be applied to save network traffic and storage space.
