PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a plate member that can more simply provide a surface shape of the main faces of the plate member to the desired shape, and to provide a plate member.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a plate member comprises a base glass plate preparation step of preparing a base glass plate that has spacer portion-forming areas formed to have a prescribed width starting from each edge face in a width direction and curvature-correcting areas formed to be adjacent to the spacer portion-forming areas in a longitudinal direction in which, in each of the curvature forming areas, a thickness of the base glass plate between the main faces increases from each edge face side toward a center portion in the width direction, and, in each of the spacer portion-forming areas, the thickness of the base glass plate between the main faces is constant or increases from each edge face side toward the center portion more gently than the thickness in the adjacent curvature-forming area, and a heating stretching step of heating the base glass plate in a heating furnace to soften and stretch the base glass plate so as to have a desired thickness. |
