[Class 74 (ii).] The needles of a multi-feeder circular machine are selected for patterning at one feeder by a pattern wheel or like, and at a subsequent feeder or feeders are reselected by means which function permanently in opposition to the pattern wheel. In one form, Fig. 3, tapering jacks 1 are arranged beneath the needles 7, and are provided with butts 2 which may be engaged and raised by the pattern wheel; unselected jacks are engaged by a cam 5 and are moved outwards so that, at the next feeder, butts 3 thereon are engaged and raised by a hfting cam; jacks raised by the pattern-wheel are subsequently guided to the inside of the cam 5, and are unaffected by the lifting cam. Two concentric cams such as 5 may be provided, and the butts 3 may be of varying length to engage with correspondingly arranged lifting cams so that upon selection by the pattern-wheel at one feeder, the remaining jacks are moved outwardly at the next feeder by the inner cam 5 so that the longer butts are engaged and raised, and at the third feeder the short butted jacks are moved further outwardly by the outer cam 5 and are raised. In another form, Fig. 8, jacks 1b are arranged so that in one position they engage beneath the ends 14 of the needles, and in a second position, as shown, they overlap the ends of the needles. The patternwheel engages the needle butts at the first feeder. The jacks beneath selected needles become separated from their needles and spring to the position shown, so that at the next feeder, where all the jacks are raised by a cam 19 the needles selected by the pattern wheel are not raised. In another construction, Fig. 12, jacks 1f are provided with butts 42 having notched upper edges 44 for engaging the needles 7f, and subsequent to selection by a pattern wheel are moved to a position to engage cams 39 of different thicknesses. |
