[Class 31 (i).] Stationary-cutter machines.-In a slitting and winding machine with surface winding drums 1, 2 which support a roll 3 of wound material means is provided for controlling the relative tractive efforts of the winding drums. The web is passed above a score cutter coacting with the drum 2, is lapped round the drum 1 and rolled upon roll 3. The roll 3 is carried on a carriage 12 supported on inclined guides 13 and is counterbalanced by a mass 6. A riding roller 5 is mounted on a carriage 14 counterbalanced by a mass 7 and masses 8 attached to the chain. The drum 2 is positioned at a lower level than the drum 1 which is positively or frictionally driven at a speed not greater than that of the drum 2.
