PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve both restraint of smoke by the pre-injection and reduction of combustion noise at a high level by adjusting the interval between a pre-injection and a main injection so as not to be overlapped and by carrying out ignition and combustion at a preferable timing in the pre-injection in a compression autoignition type internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine with a mixing operation of a fuel directly injected into a cylinder and air promoted by a swirl flow, at least a main injection of the fuel for controlling the engine torque and a pre-injection immediately before the main injection are carried out. The interval between the pre-injection and the main injection is adjusted so that the fuel injection in the pre-injection is not overlapped with the fuel injection by the main injection. The prior injection amount of the fuel prior to the pre-injection is controlled so that the inter-cylinder temperature at the time of the pre-injection is of a predetermined target temperature. |
