PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compressed bat having high strength and excellent durability without impregnating synthetic resin, and to provide a method of manufacturing the compressed bat having high strength and excellent durability without impregnating synthetic resin.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a compressed bat 60 by compressing a wood material includes: a softening step for injecting high-pressure water vapor into an elongated wood material 10 with a plurality of projections 14 extending in the longitudinal direction to form a softened wood material 20; a compression step for pressurizing the softened wood material 20 in a mold 70 to form a compressed wood material 30 having circular radial cross section; a fixing step for evaporating moisture from the compressed wood material 30 to form a hardened wood material 40; and a cutting step for cutting the hardened wood material 40.
