PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a symbol reading rate by obtaining an image of a symbol reading area where a contract between the symbol such as a stamp and a background part is high.SOLUTION: A method for automatically reading a stamp in a captured image of the stamp (a symbol) includes: capturing an image of a stamp reading area including the stamp and a background part in a first light irradiation/capturing state where a primary purpose is to capture an image by regular reflection light from the stamp background part and acquiring a stamp black image (101); and/or capturing an image of the stamp reading area in a second light irradiation/capturing state where a primary purpose is to capture an image by regular reflection light from the stamp and capturing a stamp white image (103); and automatically reading the stamp on the basis of both the acquired images (102, 104, 106, 108, 201, and 202). |
