The present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating inflammatory diseases including novel 4-o-methylhonokiol derivatives as active ingredients. The methylhonokiol derivatives of the present invention show anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the activity of COX-2(Cyclooxigenase-2). Therefore, the methylhonokiol derivatives of the present invention can be developed as active therapeutic ingredient of health functional foods and various inflammatory diseases.
