摘要 A device and method for tracking an object by using a characteristic point descriptor, and a device and method for removing an erroneous characteristic point are disclosed. A characteristic point descriptor generating unit generates a plurality of characteristic point descriptors that represents information on each of a plurality of characteristic points that are extracted from an input image to detect an object of interest. A matching unit compares the characteristic point descriptors with pre-stored characteristic point descriptors for a target object to determine characteristic point descriptors for an object of interest corresponding to a target object. A characteristic point removing unit removes characteristic point descriptors that do not satisfy geometric comparison conditions from among the characteristic point descriptors for the object of interest, and determines the final characteristic point descriptors for the object of interest. According to the present invention, in detecting an object of interest from an input image, it is possible to enhance accuracy in tracking an object by applying geometric comparison conditions to characteristic points obtained through matching and then removing incorrectly matched characteristic points.
