PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrict the performance of automatic exposure control from changing depending on whether the performance of picture quality effect processing or automatic correction processing in an image pickup device is good or not, thereby improving the performance of automatic exposure control.SOLUTION: An exposure control method is provided for an image pickup device which performs automatic correction processing and picture quality effect processing on a video signal output from image pickup means. In the exposure control method, a luminance evaluation value indicating the luminance of a video signal which has been applied by picture quality effect processing (S105) and a NAM evaluation value (S103) are detected, a control evaluation value is calculated by weighted averaging between the luminance evaluation value and the NAM evaluation value according to at least one of the amount of picture quality effect in the picture quality effect processing and the reliability of automatic correction processing (S110, S114, and S116), and exposure control is exerted on the basis of the calculated control evaluation value (S118). The greater the amount of picture quality effect is, weighting for the luminance evaluation value is increased relative to the other; the lower the reliability is, weighting for the luminance evaluation value is increased relative to the other. |
