PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a 5-benzyl-2,4-thiazolidinedione derivative which is a physiologically active compound having blood sugar and blood lipid reducing action by conducting hydrogen reduction of a 5-benzyl-2,4-thiazolidinedione derivative.SOLUTION: In producing a 5-benzyl-2,4-thiazolidinedione derivative by conducting hydrogen reduction of a 5-benzylidene-2,4-thiazolidinedione derivative, a palladium catalyst suspension is heat-treated before starting the hydrogen reduction in a hydrogen atmosphere and in the absence of the 5-benzylidene-2,4-thiazolidinedione derivative. |
