A fiber optic adapter is formed from a mounting block (30, fig 3) having first and second openings 42, 46, 64, 72 connected by through holes 48, 68, optionally formed in a cap 32 and retainer 34, a seat 50 for receiving a body portion of a fiber optic connector (38, fig 5) and at least one flexible projection 76 with first ends 78 defining an aperture 84 that is smaller than the first openings 64,72. The flexible projections 76 flex away from a rest position and away from a longitudinal axis 68 of the through opening to allow the body portion of the connector (38, fig 5) to reach the seat 50 and returns toward the rest position when the connector (38, fig 5) reaches the seat 50 and prevents removal of the connector (38, fig 5) in a direction opposite its insertion direction. |
