Cationic polyquaternary polymeric flocculating agent - prepd by reacting aqueous mixture of epihalohydrin, ammonia and lower dialkyl-amine

Cationic polyquaternary polymer material for flocculating undesirable solid particles in water is prepd. by reacting an aqs. mixt. of (I) an epihalohydrin, (II) ammonia, and (III) a dialkylamine with 1-3C alkyl groups, the amount of II being 15-33 esp. 17-25% of the total molar concn. of II and III, and the ratio of I to the concn. of II/III being between 0.9 and the functional limit of the concn. of II/III. The polymer material has a viscosity of 50-4000, esp. 100-4000 cp, and its solids content is 45-55, esp. 50%. The material has high flocculating action, is compatible with conventional flocculating agents, e.g. alum, clay and iron salts and has excellent resistance to attack by free halogen atoms in aq. media.
