The invention relates to a method for the heat treatment of wood, comprising the following successive steps: a step (1) comprising the production of hot gases and fumes using a biomass gas generator; a fume treatment step (3) consisting in dehydrating the fumes and removing dust therefrom using specific means (10); a step (40) in which the gases are conveyed to a furnace; a step (5) comprising the heating of the wood in the furnace using said gases; and a vapour extraction step (6). The aforementioned fume treatment step (3) is carried out using a device (10) comprising a gas cooling chamber (15) which can be used to dehydrate the gases, said cooling chamber (15) extending into a first collection chamber (17), located below the cooling chamber (15), for collecting the condensates originating from the fume dehydration. The method is essentially characterised in that the first collection chamber (17) is topped with at least one outlet tube (20, 21) having a diameter dimensioned to slow down the gases and to allow the dust to settle.
