The protector (1) has a set of gas discharge devices (10) that is arranged in an identical manner and is connected in series. The gas discharge devices are arranged in close relation to each other and placed in an isolated housing (6). Each gas discharge device includes a pair of mutually opposite isolated electrodes (11). An electric arc (A) is allowed to occur between the electrodes, where the protector is placed so that sum of residual stress of the gas discharge device is higher than supply voltage applied to an electric supply line i.e. feeder.
