Methods, apparatus and computer programs are provided for identifying a transmitter of a packet in an explicit and/or implicit mode of operation. A transmitter identification (604) and a first cyclic redundancy code (606) are added to a header (608) of a packet to be transmitted. A second cyclic redundancy code is added to a data portion (612) of the packet to be transmitted. The first cyclic redundancy code protects the header (608) of the packet and the second cyclic redundancy code protects the data portion (612) of the packet.
