PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic-inorganic hybrid organic electroluminescent element having excellent light-emitting characteristics, in which crystallization of a low-molecular compound is suppressed even when a low-molecular compound layer is used as a layer constituting the organic electroluminescent element.SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element having a structure in which a plurality of layers are laminated is characterized in that: it comprises a first metal oxide layer, a buffer layer, a low-molecular compound layer laminated on the buffer layer and including a light-emitting layer, and a second metal oxide layer in this order between a first electrode and a second electrode; and the buffer layer is formed by applying a solution containing an organic compound and has an average thickness of 5-50 nm.
