PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve apparatus capable of suppressing wear of a cam piece or wear of a predetermined portion of an internal combustion engine to which the cam piece is pressed.SOLUTION: A variable valve apparatus (5) includes: a cam piece (20) having a plurality of cams (21, 22), moving in an axial direction of a camshaft (10) relative to the camshaft during the switching of the cams driving engine valves (100) and having a first slope (52) inclined relative to the axial direction and a second slope (53) connected to the first slope; and a pressure application member (40) for applying a pressure to the first slope after the completion of the switching of the cams driving the engine valves and applying a second pressure to the second slope during the switching of the cam. The first slope is inclined relative to the axial direction so that a direction of component of force obtained by decomposing the pressure received from the pressure application member after the completion of the switching of the cam into the axial direction becomes the direction of pressing the cam piece to predetermined portions (130, 131) of the internal combustion engine. The inclination angle of the first slope is smaller than that of the second slope. |
