PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antifouling coating composition capable of maintaining excellent performance for a long period without a decrease in self-polishability of a coating film formed therefrom even in a low operation speed of a ship.SOLUTION: A metal-containing copolymer for an antifouling coating is obtained by polymerizing a monomer mixture containing a polymerizable monomer (a) containing a metal and a polymerizable monomer (b) copolymerizable with (a) at a temperature of ≥110°C in a pressurized vessel so pressurized that water is not refluxed. An antifouling coating composition contains the copolymer.
