The machine has printing units (10), and each unit has an impression cylinder (11), rubber cylinders (12) and a form cylinder (13). A correction parameter overlies a position actual value (20) of the respective rubber cylinders for ensuring image error corrections in multi color printing at each printing unit, which takes part in the multicolor printing for the formation of a position desired value for the cylinder (13). The correction parameter is determined based on an overlapping function, whose input parameter is the actual value of the cylinder (12). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating the printing machine e.g. sheet fed printing machine.
