[Class 111] In sewage treatment and like plant employing raking means in a tank provided with a gas holder, the rotary shaft carrying the raking means and located at its lower end at the bottom of the tank is suspended by counterbalance means from the gas holder on which are mounted means for communicating rotation to the shaft irrespective of the rise and fall of the gas holder. As shown, a sewage digester comprises a tank 1 surmounted by a gas holder 3 to which is secured a housing 21 surrounding a shaft 26. The shaft carries floor-raking means 40 and scum-collecting means 43. The shaft is rotatably mounted at the bottom and at the top has a cap 27 rotatably supported on ball bearings 28 on a roller 16 secured to the upper end of a tension rod 13. The rod at the bottom is anchored non-rotatably in a hollow post, and at the top is secured by ropes 20 and pulleys 24 to counterweights 25, the pulleys 'being mounted on the gas holder. The housing 21 carries a worm and a worm wheel 29, the latter having an extension 32 with teeth 33 engaging splines on the shaft 36 whereby rotary movement is conveyed to the shaft irrespective of relative longitudinal movement between the shaft and the wheel.</p> |
