The system has an air intake circuit (2) including an electric compressor, where compressed air by the electric compressor is conveyed upstream of a catalyst (13) by an injection pipe (15). The pipe connects the air intake circuit downstream from the electric compressor to a gas exhaust circuit (3) of the catalyst. The intake circuit includes a mechanical compressor (7) placed downstream from the electric compressor. A bypass (16) connects the pipe to the intake circuit, where air flow in the bypass is controlled by a flap. An independent claim is also included for a method for using an injection system.
