PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscopic electric surgical forceps which can be inexpensively manufactured and which enables to seal and cut a relatively large tissue structure.SOLUTION: A surgical instrument includes a long slender shaft, and the long slender shaft has proximal and distal parts. An inside shaft member, which is elongated at least partially through the long slender shaft, can selectively move in a longitudinal direction. An end effector supported by the distal part of the long slender shaft comprises an upper jaw member and a lower jaw member. The jaw members are turnably connected to the distal part of the long slender shaft and provided with a pair of flanges away from each other in a lateral direction. The flanges are disposed so that the one flange of the upper jaw member can be positioned on the lateral outside of the corresponding flange of the lower jaw member and so that the other flange of the upper jaw member can be positioned on the lateral inside of the other flange of the lower jaw member. |
